Thorpe Park Fright Night Radio Advert

This advert is for an event at Thorpe Park which is called Fright Night. This advert uses scary sound effects to set the mood of the event. Also the use of sound effect of water to set the effect of being on the ride which is a water ride. The advert says that the event “is the most terrifying ever’ this is stating that there event is scary than any others. The advert contains one voice over which is a male. This suits the Theme park as most people who go will say the rides are terrifying. This advert is also advertising a late night finish at the park this can appeal to those who work late then can still make the event. At the end of the advert it gives details on how to booked tickets this is at the end as listeners will remember what was said.

Go Compare Radio Advert

This shows a radio advert for ‘Go Compare’. This advert has a tagline that is repeated throughout which is ‘Go compare’. The advert uses the technique of singing as the main voice over sings the script to the advert, he is singing along to music that is used as the radio advert bed. This catches the listener’s attention and as the advert is played over again with repeating lyrics the listener starts to remember the words. This is a good techniques as the listeners will remember ‘go compare’ and check out their website or give to a friend of the ask. This advert has been voted most annoying/irritating due to the lyrics used this is a negative point as if this is played many listeners will turn it off or not recommend ‘Go compare’ as the adverts annoys the.

Radio Advert

In addition to my local newspaper and poster advertisement I have to produce a radio advert advertising my newspaper.

General Radio Advert Research:
Radio advertising can be purchased locally, regionally or nationally and can be produced to fit any company’s advertising budget or reach any target audience you choose. More and more radio stations are aiming their broadcasting to highly targeted audiences, whether they are young, male or female, football fans, lovers of classical, pop, jazz or all music lovers.

If a radio advert is too funny then people will remember the joke and not the product or service. If the advert is too irritating then people will switch off. Radio adverts needs to be engaging so that people tune into what is being said and most importantly remember the message, the product, the website address and telephone number.

Remembered radio adverts:

I have been listening to the different radio stations such as, Radio city, Juice FM, Real Radio....

And notifying the different adverts and the techniques they have used.

I have noticed the convention of radio adverts using tagline that’s is being repeated throughout the advert. This gives the adverts its own identity and can be used on any other advertisement for this product. Example of this “We buy any car” or “118 118”.

Most of the adverts have a music background known as a ‘bed’.

The voice over for radio advert all vary due to the product. But they all use a strong clear voice. Listening to local radio station like radio city I found that the accents are use to sell their products. This can be used in my advert as it is a local newspaper.

Wanted Poster

I have chosen to create my poster using a layout of a ‘wanted poster’. I have decided on this idea as it is very different to any other poster advert and I have not seen this technique used before.

The poster will follow several conventions:

All wanted poster have big bold text at the top of the page “Wanted” I will use this title as all students wanting the newspaper.

Also an image positioned in the middle, this image will be the front cover of my newspaper.

As wanted poster was used in history they look old and instead of white paper they are brown and stained with maybe rips or burn wholes. I will use this effect but using a stained background and cutting around the edges. I can also use Photoshop tool to give the burn effect.

Wanted poster have “Reward” Positions at the bottom of the page, I will have this as the student reward being the newspaper.

As the newspaper is targeted at student I want this to appeal to them I will try making the text funny adding some comedy to the poster.

Ideas For My Newspaper Poster Advert

The poster to advertise the Knowsley Today has to be attractive standing out for other poster catching the readers eye meaning it has to appeal to my target audience of students.

The poster will have to be:

  • College and student related
  • Bright colours, make the poster colourful
  • I think the poster should be simple but effective
  • Will have to include the newspaper logo which will be the masthead so it can be recognised.
  • related to newspaper content
  • State the paper is free
  • Attract and appeal to target audience students
After researching different newspaper and the way their newspaper is advertised through posters, I liked the metro adverts most these appeal to me more.

Ideas for my advertising posters

First Idea:

My first idea for advertisement poster for my newspaper is to be similar to the metro adverts where the newspaper is positions in different hot items, coffee cup and paper bag. Using a technique similar to this I think it will be effective for my newspaper that is distributed in college. I can take pictures of my newspaper in different everyday college items. Such as folder, books, bags, computer, pens case, in the canteen and other places or items that students at college can relate to. I think that style of poster will be effective and appeal to my target audience, as I am my target audience and this appeals to me. Another idea within in this was to have 3 images of in college items or location on the same poster. I could use different effects and tool on photoshop to make the newspaper stand out in the image. One effect I could use if making everything in the image black and white and just the Knowsley Today front page in colour.

Second Idea:

Would to make the poster simple, having one main image of students around college, representing the target audience. I would then position the logo/masthead of the newspaper having it bug bold standing out so people can recognize it. This style is similar to The Times newspaper having one image and the logo.

Third Idea:

Is to create a 'Wanted Poster' the idea of saying that my newspaper is wanted by all students and that it is an reward for those that read it. This will make my poster advert comical.

The Sun - Research Newspaper Poster

The Sun newspaper advert poster

This poster is a receipt with the contents of the sun newspaper as the purchases. The adverts is stating that the reader can get all that above contents for only 30p. This advert is plain but I think it is really effective and a great idea.

This advert of the recite represents The Sun newspaper a getting loads for a low price of 30p. The list shows what contents is in the newspaper this tries to appeal to different audiences.

Through this advert and research into The Sun I have found that its target audience is males. As you can see from the list n recite not many of the content will appeal to females.

The text presents many of the topics that modern day students can relate to e.g. ”having a hangover” or “Eating beans”

Newspaper Construction Draft 3

This is a finish draft of my newspaper which I will present to a focus group to gain feedback about the newspaper products and any possible changes I can make.

After showing my focus group the newspaper I found that the story on the font page about the fire was not as appealing as the Knowsley Festival story on the inside page. I have rearrange these two stories expand the Knowsley festival story so that it fits in the layout on the font cover. This now makes my newspaper more attractive appealing to my target audience.

Monday 1 November 2010

Newspaper Draft 1

I have started to add images and text into the layout of the newspaper this gives me more of an idea about space and how the newspaper will look. I can also show different ideas to my target audience and see their opinions.

The inside page I used different colours for the contents. This is bright making the newspaper colourful but it doesn't link with the colour scheme and makes the newspaper look more like a magazine and not have the front page matching the inside.

The main image is of a girl band, my story for this image will relate to student have them attend a local college radio station.

The display advert is for Top Shop. This is an image I took from outside the store in Liverpool. I used a green border around this thinking it would stand out and look attractive.
This is the front page, the masthead is still at construction stage but i like the idea of conforming to the traditional newspaper colours of red, blue, white and black. Also the style of The Echo. The display advert at the bottom will be completed after I have taken the images, I will use a font style for "Dafont" an online font website were you can use and download different font styles. I will use of font under the horror catagory relating to Farmageddon and the halloween season.

Overall Research

I have come to the end of my research and planning of my newspaer, I now have a clear understanding of what my target audiences want from a newspaper.

Using all my research from focus groups, questionnaires and general research in brief they target audience want less writing on the front cover containing images and headlines to attract them. On the inside page have a contents showing readers what’s inside and were they can fin it.

Research shown that the contents of the newspapers will include more stories appealing to my target audience, including their hobbies and interesting which is music, local events, celebrity gossip and sport.

My newspaper is will be distributed in school/college or any youth places (conextions.) Having the newspaper disturbed at college will allow the student easy access t pick up a copy. I have decided that my newspaper will be free as the target audience is students they have less money as they may not work due to studies or only have part time jobs.

I can now begin the construction of my local newspaper.

Focus Group

I held a focus group with my target audience to see what their views on my ideas were. I presented a variety of font styles, 4 different front cover and inside page layouts to see what appeals most.

The focus group said they preferred front cover layout 3 but said that having a lead at the bottom of the page will be too much text for the front cover to be target at students. As the layout was appealing looking busy with headlines and images.

With help from the focus group I decided to change the lead to be a display ad this will add more colour to the front cover.

I showed my focus group 3 contents layouts. The all said that layout 2 appealed most to them. They focus group then said that having a headline at the top of page makes the inside page look more like a front cover. To solve this I decided to take away the headline box and move all the other boxes up.

When showing the font styles to my focus group they all chose 'Berlin Sands FB Demi' as the masthead font. After discussing this font with the focus group I found that it was not as appealing. The font I used were from publisher the standard font package. I will have the Berlin Sand font is mind and look for more font on online or other package fonts.

I asked the focus group what colour scheme would work best for my newspaper. They all said they preferred the newspaper traditional most popular colours of red, blue, black and white. This colour scheme is seen in most newspaper (the echo, the mirror, the star). I feel that challenging the codes and conventions of the colour schemes and using different colours would make my newspaper stand out more attracting more readers.

The feedback from the focus group helped my change ideas make them more appealing and eye catching to my target audience.
